Remote Monitoring System for Cleanroom

Published: 2026-04-15 17:49:45

To maintain temperature, humidity, and cleanliness levels inside a cleanroom, it is necessary to deploy multiple high-precision temperature and humidity sensors, as well as monitor fans and dampers in the air ducts, and pressure sensors and electric control valves in the chilled and hot water piping systems. These devices work with a PLC that controls the operation of heating and cooling units, enabling automated environmental control to ensure cleanroom standards.

In a precision instrument manufacturing facility, the cleanroom uses a Mitsubishi FX series PLC for automated environmental control. The plant needed to connect the PLC data to its central management platform for remote monitoring and control. However, due to the long distance between the cleanroom and the control room — which made wiring expensive and difficult to retrofit — WideIOT provided a PLC data acquisition gateway based on a 4G wireless gateway. This solution offers comprehensive and reliable digital support for cleanroom management in the factory.

Implementation Plan

1. Gateway Installation

Install the 4G wireless gateway on the DIN rail inside the PLC electrical cabinet, ensuring that the communication cables between the gateway and the PLC are properly and securely connected. Configure the gateway's network access settings and bind the corresponding data variables.

2. System Integration and Testing

Access the gateway's configuration interface to match the data formats and communication protocols between the PLC and the central platform. Test whether data packets are correctly read and whether platform functions operate as expected. The platform will then store and analyze the data.

3. Remote Monitoring

Using local PC software, managers can monitor real-time temperature and humidity data from the cleanroom, as well as operational parameters of the heating and cooling units. They can also receive alert notifications. All data is aggregated and displayed on a centralized dashboard for easy management.

4. Remote Control

The gateway supports two-way communication with the PLC, enabling remote control of the PLC — for example, starting or stopping fans and pumps. If any abnormality occurs, managers can act quickly to control the system, ensuring a stable and safe cleanroom environment.
