HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol), as the most fundamental application-layer protocol on the Internet, is also widely utilized in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) for device cloud connectivity, data reporting, and system integration communication. Due to its characteristics of standardization, cross-platform compatibility, and ease of implementation, HTTP serves as a crucial bridge between industrial gateways and cloud platforms, finding extensive applications in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, environmental protection, and water conservancy.
A factory has already implemented a basic automated production process, with multiple Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) controlling the automated operation of various equipment on the production line. Now, there is a need to collect real-time data from these PLCs and interface with the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) via the HTTP protocol and JSON format. In response, WideIOT offers an efficient and reliable IoT solution for rapid PLC data collection and communication reporting.
1. Device Layer
The on-site equipment primarily consists of Siemens, Mitsubishi, and Inovance PLCs, which are integrated into control cabinets.
2. Gateway Layer
WideIOT industrial intelligent gateways are deployed within the control cabinets. These gateways connect to the PLCs to collect real-time equipment data, perform protocol parsing and data acquisition, and communicate with the MES system via a 4G network using the HTTP protocol and JSON format.
3. Platform Layer
The MES system receives and parses the data, generating visual data dashboards. It provides functions such as remote monitoring, alarming, statistics, management, and analysis.

Precise Data Collection
The gateway accurately collects various types of data from the PLCs, including equipment status (start/stop, faults, etc.), production parameters (temperature, pressure, speed, etc.), and output data. This provides a reliable basis for subsequent analysis and decision-making.
Flexible Protocol Conversion
The gateway supports multiple mainstream protocols (such as Siemens S7, Mitsubishi FX, Omron CJ, etc.). It can swiftly and accurately convert data from different protocols into standard formats, such as HTTP, MQTT, and Modbus, breaking down communication barriers between devices and enabling seamless interconnection.
Reliable Data Transmission
The gateway offers flexible internet connectivity options, including 5G/4G/WIFI/Ethernet. It also supports resumable data transfer, ensuring that data transmission can resume from where it left off after a network failure, thereby guaranteeing the completeness and accuracy of the data.
Remote Monitoring
After interfacing with the MES system, real-time remote monitoring of the equipment is achieved. Managers can log in to the system via terminals to view equipment status, parameters, output, and other information, gaining an intuitive understanding of the operational situation and promptly identifying and addressing abnormalities.
Intelligent Alarming
When equipment parameters are abnormal, faults occur, or production anomalies arise, alarms are triggered and notified to relevant personnel via SMS, email, WeChat, etc. The alarms contain detailed information to facilitate quick location and resolution of issues.
Analytical Decision-Making
By comprehensively analyzing data on equipment, parameters, and output, operational patterns, production bottlenecks, and quality risks can be identified. Based on these results, enterprises can optimize processes, adjust plans, and improve maintenance strategies, thereby enhancing efficiency and quality while reducing costs.
