LoRa + 5G IoT Solution for Agricultural Water Conservancy Information Collection and Monitoring

Published: 2026-07-14 11:17:03
Against the backdrop of increasing water scarcity and intensifying climate change, traditional extensive water management models are no longer capable of meeting the demands of modern agriculture for efficient water use and precise regulation. This project requires real-time monitoring of agricultural water facilities such as pumps and valves. WideIOT provides a low-cost, high-efficiency LoRa + 5G IoT solution to address these needs.

System Architecture

LoRa data acquisition terminals (model WD140) are deployed across multiple pump houses and integrated measurement-and-control valves in the farmland. These terminals collect real-time data including pump status, valve positions, and water levels before and after sluice gates, and transmit the data via LoRa to 5G gateways. The 5G gateways then forward the collected data to the agricultural water management platform, enabling remote monitoring, alerting, management, control, and statistical analysis of water conservancy information. This facilitates optimal scheduling of water resources, continuously improves water use efficiency, and ensures the safety of agricultural production.

Key Features

1. Real-time Data Collection and Remote Access
Critical data such as pump status, water levels, flow rates, and valve positions are collected and uploaded to the cloud platform. Managers can remotely view all monitoring points via computers or mobile devices, replacing traditional manual inspections, reducing workload, and improving data accuracy.

2. Customizable Alerts and Proactive Notifications
Alert thresholds can be flexibly preset to filter and identify abnormal data. When anomalies are detected, alerts are triggered and sent through multiple channels including WeChat, SMS, and email, allowing managers to quickly locate and address faults, thereby reducing the risk of equipment damage and water waste.

3. Remote Control for Precision Irrigation
Managers can remotely control PLCs of pumps, valves, and other equipment to fine-tune irrigation parameters based on crop needs and real-time monitoring data. This enables on-demand irrigation, minimizes water waste, lowers irrigation costs, and enhances the level of refined management.

4. Data Storage and Analytical Insights
All data transmitted through the gateways is stored on the cloud platform. Multi-dimensional analysis generates statistical reports that support managers in optimizing irrigation plans, adjusting operational parameters, and predicting potential risks. This drives a shift from reactive troubleshooting to proactive, informed decision-making.

5. Wireless, Cost-Effective Deployment
Both LoRa and 5G are wireless transmission technologies, eliminating the need for cabling and extensive construction. They offer long-range, low-power, and interference-resistant performance, making them well-suited for complex outdoor environments. The system supports multiple node access and multi-center data distribution, resulting in low deployment and maintenance costs.
