Visual Monitoring and Management System Solution for Central Air Conditioning Plants in a University

Published: 2026-06-05 11:22:32

A university campus comprises core buildings such as teaching buildings, administrative offices, a library, faculty and student apartments, and a conference center. Central air conditioning systems are installed in the teaching buildings, administrative offices, library, and conference center. These systems directly affect the quality of teaching, research, and external exchanges, and therefore require long-term, stable cooling. Given the special demands of high-load operation and serving large concentrations of people, extremely high standards are placed on the safety, reliability, and energy efficiency of the equipment.

There is a need to deploy an information-based management system that enables visual monitoring and management of multiple central air conditioning units. WideIOT addresses this by deploying data acquisition gateways that connect to the PLCs of the air conditioning units. The gateways collect real-time data on voltage, current, supply and return water temperatures, ambient temperature and humidity, and more, and transmit this data to the central plant management platform. This enables remote equipment monitoring, alarming, management, control, maintenance, and data analysis, helping to improve work efficiency and management standards while ensuring reliable and stable cooling.

Key Features

1. Real-time data collection and visualization – Key parameters such as voltage, current, supply/return water temperatures, and ambient temperature/humidity are collected and displayed in real time. A visual dashboard shows equipment layout, pipeline flow direction, valve status, and more, with access available via multiple devices including smartphones and computers.

2. Edge alarming – The gateway device supports edge-based alarming. When abnormal data is detected, notifications are automatically sent via WeChat, SMS, or email. All alerts are aggregated into an "Alarm Center" to help view alarm frequency, fault distribution, and other information.

3. Remote control – Supports both uplink data transmission and downlink control commands, enabling remote operation of air conditioning units. Operating parameters can be dynamically adjusted based on campus cooling load to improve energy efficiency and support energy saving and consumption reduction.

4. Digital inspection and maintenance management – Establishes an online inspection and maintenance management mechanism. Inspection records can be completed online, and maintenance tasks can be received and acknowledged digitally. Visual reports are generated for equipment records, maintenance logs, fault reports, and more, facilitating statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making.
