Multi-Protocol PLC Gateway Makes Data Collection More Efficient and Convenient

Published: 2026-04-22 11:12:05

In the field of industrial automation, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) undoubtedly play a central role in connecting production equipment with higher-level management systems.

However, the reality is that different brands and models of PLCs are as diverse as a kaleidoscope, each using completely different communication protocols—such as Siemens' proprietary S7 protocol, the widely used Modbus TCP protocol, and the industry-standard OPC UA protocol. While this diversity brings prosperity to industrial communication, it also creates certain limitations for the development of host systems. Whenever a company needs to integrate a new type of device, the development team almost has to write an entirely new set of communication logic from scratch, which significantly increases both development costs and time.

To address this, WideIOT offers a data collection solution based on a multi-protocol PLC communication gateway. The gateway supports PLCs from brands such as Siemens, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Omron, Schneider, Keyence, Beckhoff, Yonghong, Rockwell (Allen‑Bradley), Xinje, Delta, Inovance, Hollysys, CHANJE, B&R, KOYO, Wecon, Haiwell, Megmeet, and more. It also supports communication with host systems or cloud platforms via 5G, 4G, WiFi, or Ethernet.

On the northbound side, the gateway supports protocols such as MQTT, HTTP, TCP, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, and SQL, enabling simultaneous connections to multiple data centers. These include the WideIOT cloud platform, customer‑developed cloud platforms, third‑party IoT clouds (Rootcloud, Meicloud, Huawei, Alibaba, Baidu, Microsoft, etc.), as well as industrial software such as SCADA systems, MES, and industry‑specific monitoring platforms.

In addition, the gateway comes with an intuitive and easy‑to‑use management interface. Users can easily complete site settings, manage variables, and view and analyze real‑time data with simple configuration steps (locally or via the cloud). This allows for rapid project deployment and functional implementation, enabling remote monitoring, alarming, management, control, maintenance, and data analysis of industrial equipment. It provides comprehensive and reliable digital support for equipment manufacturers, factories, and other users.
