Remote Monitoring System Solution for Water Treatment Plant Pump Stations

Published: 2026-07-07 11:45:12
In the daily operation of modern cities, a clean and stable supply of tap water is one of the essential infrastructures. As the starting point of the entire water supply chain, the water treatment plant relies on efficient coordination across all its internal processes. Among these, the pump station plays a critical role as a core component of the plant—it not only ensures the efficient operation of water treatment processes but also maintains stable pressurization of the treated water before it leaves the plant, thereby meeting residents' water demand.

An existing water treatment plant pump station is primarily equipped with Siemens PLCs and SCADA host computers, which communicate with each other via Ethernet. Additionally, UPS backup power cabinets are deployed on-site; in the event of a power outage to the PLC cabinet, the UPS automatically starts up to provide backup power. However, since much of the data remains confined to the local site, staff are required to be on duty around the clock, resulting in growing workloads and increasing management costs.

To address this, WideIOT offers a remote monitoring system solution for water treatment plant pump stations based on industrial smart gateways. By deploying gateways in the PLC electrical control cabinets and UPS cabinets, the system can collect real-time equipment operating data and transmit it via 4G networks to both the SCADA host computers and the remote monitoring platform. This enables remote monitoring, fault alarms, remote control, remote maintenance, and data analytics, providing reliable support for achieving refined pump station management.

Key Functions

1. Data Collection from PLC Cabinets and UPS Cabinets
The system collects data from both the PLC electrical control cabinets and the UPS cabinets, enabling real-time monitoring of the pump station via SCADA host computers and the remote monitoring platform. Operators can check equipment operating status and process parameters anytime, anywhere using mobile phones or computers.

2. Automated Alarm Notifications
Pre-set alarm thresholds for parameters such as water output flow and outlet pressure are configured in advance. When abnormal data is detected, the system automatically sends alerts via WeChat, SMS, or email, allowing for rapid fault localization, diagnosis, and control management.

3. Remote Manual Control
The system supports remote manual control of various pump station devices, including starting/stopping pumps and opening/closing valves. This reduces the need for on-site staffing, lowers labor costs, and provides more convenient and efficient workflow support, paving the way for unattended pump station operation.

4. Remote PLC Maintenance
Engineers can perform remote programming, debugging, and remote upload/download of PLC programs without needing to travel to the site. This significantly improves work efficiency and reduces the frequency of business trips.

5. API Data Interface for Integration
The system provides an API data interface for connecting to the group's central monitoring platform, enabling real-time data transmission and stable communication. This allows management to access information on water output volume, treated water quality, production efficiency, and more, facilitating rational allocation and adjustment of resources.
