IoT Solution for Smart Upgrading of PLCs in Secondary Water Supply Pump Stations

Published: 2026-05-27 17:09:36

A secondary water supply utility company plans to upgrade and renovate multiple aging pump stations. The requirements include remote start/stop, automatic pump control, high-temperature alerts, comprehensive data collection (water quality, video, electrical parameters), and centralized pump station management. All data must be integrated into the main sewage plant platform to enable refined management and efficient operation and maintenance. To address these needs, WideIOT provides a reliable and efficient PLC data acquisition solution for secondary water supply pump stations.

Application Scenario A

Some PLC control cabinets are located outdoors, where components are constantly exposed to high temperatures. Additionally, these cabinets only support local water-level-based start/stop of pumps, with no remote control capability. This leads to unstable water supply pressure in some cases, affecting residential water use.

In response, WideIOT deploys industrial IoT gateways that can connect to PLCs and temperature sensors to collect real-time data such as water level, cabinet temperature, water quality (COD, ammonia nitrogen, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, SS, pH), pump status (running, fault, start/stop), gate valve status, and trash rack status. The data is transmitted via 4G to the secondary water supply pump station management platform, enabling remote monitoring, alerting, management, and control of the pump stations, effectively ensuring reliable and stable water supply.

Application Scenario B

In this scenario, multiple pump stations act as slave stations communicating with the master station PLC. The master station PLC is required to provide overall control and reuse the water level, high-temperature, and interlocking logic from Pump Station A. WideIOT deploys industrial IoT gateways at each site to collect operating status, process parameters, and alert information from each pump station. All data is centrally connected to the secondary water supply pump station management platform, enabling refined management of each pump station. The system can analyze water flow rates, alert frequencies, fault distribution, and other information, helping to develop scientific and reasonable management strategies and maintenance plans, ensuring safe and stable operation of pump station equipment.
