Industrial and Commercial PV + Energy Storage Integrated Communication IoT System Solution

Published: 2026-05-26 11:17:32

A commercial building has deployed a photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system. Power is generated by multiple PV inverters, while the energy storage side consists of a Power Conversion System (PCS) and a Battery Management System (BMS). The PV inverters transmit power generation data (DC voltage, AC power, daily energy yield, etc.) using the IEC104 protocol. Meanwhile, the energy storage controller (e.g., a Siemens S7‑1500 PLC) receives dispatch commands and manages charging/discharging via Modbus. Because the two sides use different protocols, they cannot communicate directly with each other.

The goal is to establish an information‑based management platform that integrates both PV and energy storage equipment for centralized monitoring, management, and dispatch. WideIOT addresses this by deploying energy smart gateways. These gateways connect to PV inverters, energy storage PLCs, and other devices, collecting real‑time data such as DC voltage, AC power, daily energy yield, battery charge/discharge status, and battery temperature. The data is then transmitted over 4G networks to the PV‑storage management platform, enabling remote monitoring, alarming, management, control, and data analysis. This effectively improves equipment management and work efficiency while continuously enhancing PV power generation benefits.

Key Features

1. The gateway collects data from IEC104‑compatible PV inverters (DC voltage, AC power, energy yield, etc.), converts it to the Modbus protocol, and sends it to the PV‑storage management platform.

2. The gateway collects data from the energy storage controller PLC (battery charge/discharge status, battery temperature, state of health (SOH), etc.), also converts it to Modbus, and sends it to the PV‑storage management platform. It also supports sending Modbus commands to enable remote control of the energy storage equipment.

3. By setting alarm thresholds, the system can automatically trigger alerts when abnormal data is detected. Notifications are sent via WeChat, SMS, email, etc., allowing for rapid fault localization and corrective actions, thereby ensuring safe and reliable operation of the PV and energy storage equipment.

4. The gateway features industrial‑grade protective design and supports battery/solar power supply. It also includes local data storage and automatic reconnection after network interruptions. During communication failures, data is cached locally and automatically retransmitted once the network is restored.

5. The platform can parse and visualize the data, providing statistics on equipment status, alarm frequency, energy yield reports, battery health curves, and more. This supports sound, data‑driven decision‑making.
