IoT Solution for Water Supply and Drainage Scenarios

Published: 2026-09-04 15:16:27
As IoT technology continues to be adopted across various industries, smart water management has become a consensus in the water sector. China has introduced a series of policies to promote the development of smart water systems. The country's 14th Five-Year Plan explicitly calls for building an intelligent water conservancy and water supply system, enhancing smart dispatch capabilities, and advancing water supply infrastructure projects—creating a favorable policy environment for the growth of smart water solutions.

To support digital transformation and intelligent management in water utilities, many companies have already begun building smart water platforms. However, most of these platforms are limited to specific segments of water supply or drainage operations, lacking a unified management and control framework. As a result, they have yet to form a comprehensive smart management system. To address this gap, WideIOT offers a smart water management IoT platform that fully integrates water utility systems, providing a robust and reliable implementation solution for the industry.

Solution Overview

Through WideIOT industrial smart gateways, the solution enables data acquisition and real-time communication from water equipment, instruments, and sensors—delivering visualized data displays, monitoring, and analytics capabilities. It supports rapid alerting and maintenance for equipment faults and abnormal water quality, providing an efficient and responsive management approach for water utilities. The system is structured into three layers:
Data Acquisition Layer – On-site water meters, sensors, PLCs, cameras, and other devices connect to WideIOT industrial smart gateways.
Data Transmission Layer – Various data types are transmitted via wired or wireless means using protocols such as Modbus and MQTT.
Data Application Layer – The application platform receives data, processes it for visualization, and provides a range of intelligent functions.

System Functions

Device Management – Enables management and querying of all equipment connected to the system, including water meters, chemical dosing units, pumps, pressure gauges, water quality analyzers, and more.
Alert Management – Supports custom alarm rules and notification methods; automatically triggers alerts upon detection of equipment faults via WeChat, SMS, or email.
Maintenance Management – Allows rapid creation and querying of maintenance work orders and inspection tickets, with real-time tracking of progress and activity logs—establishing a digitalized maintenance workflow.
Data Monitoring – Provides visualized display of equipment operating status, operational parameters, digital I/O states, water quality indicators, energy consumption, and other data for quick and convenient analysis.
