The Modbus protocol is a widely adopted communication standard in the industrial sector, commonly used in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, and HMIs for data acquisition and process monitoring. Modbus defines message structures, data formats, commands, and response mechanisms. In a master-slave communication model, the master node periodically polls the slaves to read input data and send output data. Upon receiving a valid message, a slave responds by transmitting the requested data back to the master. The master can also send direct write commands to modify data on the slave side, enabling bidirectional read/write communication. WideIOT's industrial IoT gateways are capable of parsing protocols from major PLC brands including Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider, Delta, and Inovance. They can connect to multiple PLCs simultaneously to facilitate Modbus master-slave communication. The gateways support both serial (RS232/RS485) and Ethernet connections to PLCs, and after protocol parsing and conversion, they communicate with host systems (SCADA) or cloud platforms. Equipped with built-in intelligent algorithms and alarm logic, they enable remote equipment monitoring, fault alerting, and remote control—making them an essential component of modern industrial IoT systems.
Data Acquisition: The gateway communicates with a variety of Modbus-enabled devices—including sensors, data loggers, utility meters, and PLCs—to collect real-time field data. Real-Time Monitoring: The system continuously tracks equipment status, covering alarm events, operational states, and more. In the event of anomalies, it can instantly send notifications to users. Remote Control: With bidirectional communication support, the gateway allows users to remotely adjust device parameters, switch operating modes, and perform other control actions via system dashboards or mobile applications. System Integration: Data can be interfaced with external enterprise systems such as ERP or MES, enabling seamless data sharing and interoperability. This integration enhances overall system efficiency and decision-making capabilities.
