IoT Solution for PLC Data Acquisition and Remote Maintenance of Smart Labeling Machines

Published: 2026-08-05 14:34:51
As domestic manufacturing continues to upgrade, an increasing number of traditional stand-alone machines are required to improve their level of automation and support capabilities such as equipment networking, remote monitoring, and remote maintenance. Conventional labeling machines are a typical example of such stand-alone equipment. Retrofitting them with PLC-based automation is one of the most efficient and practical approaches, significantly improving labeling speed and accuracy—which in turn plays a key role in boosting production efficiency and reducing costs for manufacturing facilities.

To address this need, WideIOT offers edge intelligent gateways that enable data acquisition from labeling machine PLCs, protocol conversion, remote operations and maintenance, and integration with MES systems or cloud platforms. These gateways make it easy for factories to manage, control, and maintain equipment efficiently, while providing engineers with fast configuration tools, data interface access, document read/write capabilities, and remote program upload/download—supporting the digital transformation and upgrade of manufacturing operations.

System Functions

Data Acquisition
The gateway collects equipment data from PLCs and HMIs—including labeling speed, label count, voltage, current, and other parameters—and uploads it in real time to cloud-based monitoring platforms and MES systems.

Protocol Parsing
The gateway supports a wide range of PLC protocols and data acquisition capabilities, covering major brands such as Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider, Delta, and Inovance. Configuration can be automated and performed remotely for fast deployment.

Flexible Communication
The gateway supports data upload to cloud platforms or host systems via 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet, ensuring real-time data transmission and seamless sharing.

Disconnection Protection
With dual-WAN port support, the gateway automatically switches to an alternative network in the event of a line failure. In addition, data is temporarily stored locally during network interruptions and resumed once connectivity is restored—ensuring data integrity.

Fault Alarming
Using edge-based intelligent algorithms, the system cleans, filters, and performs calculations on data. When anomalies are detected, alerts are automatically triggered and notifications are sent via WeChat, SMS, email, or other channels.

Remote Operations and Maintenance
The gateway supports remote configuration and firmware updates. It also enables remote PLC programming, debugging, and remote program upload/download operations, significantly improving work efficiency.
