Integrated IoT Solution for Environmental Monitoring and Fan Control

A large chemical enterprise is facing significant challenges with its workplace environmental gas safety monitoring system. Perception Layer: Sensors are deployed across key leakage points, workstations, ventilation areas, and exhaust fans throughout the workshop to detect methane, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and other gases.
Transmission Layer: Industrial-grade wireless gateways are used to upload real-time data from sensors and fans to the cloud platform. These gateways support dual-network redundancy with both 5G and Ethernet, ensuring stable and uninterrupted data transmission.
Application Layer: A cloud-based monitoring platform enables remote environmental surveillance, alerting, management, control, and statistical analysis—replacing manual patrols and meter readings while significantly improving emergency response capabilities.


Key Capabilities

The system collects and displays dynamic trend curves for gas concentrations (methane, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, etc.), while also monitoring fan operating status (run time, voltage, current, etc.). Whenever gas concentrations reach preset thresholds or fan anomalies are detected, instant alerts are sent via SMS, email, and WeChat through multiple channels.

The platform supports full integration with PLCs, cameras, and other devices for bidirectional data communication. When a sustained rise in gas concentration is detected in a specific area, managers can remotely start or adjust the speed of the corresponding exhaust fan with a single click from the cloud. Simultaneously, the system can trigger equipment shutdowns and activate audible/visual alarms to ensure personnel and production safety.

The platform automatically generates equipment operation logs, daily/weekly environmental monitoring reports, and fan energy efficiency analysis charts. These can be exported as compliance-ready reports that meet regulatory requirements with one click, significantly reducing frontline staff workload and allowing inspection resources to be focused on exception verification and preventive maintenance.

Standard API data interfaces are provided for seamless integration with existing enterprise systems such as DCS (Distributed Control Systems), MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), or third-party regulatory platforms, enabling data sharing and coordinated response. For example, gas concentration warning signals can be synchronized with the emergency management department's platform to support integrated safety oversight.
