Comprehensive IoT Environmental Monitoring System for Factory Facilities

Published: 2026-07-23 13:27:00
A furniture manufacturing plant recently added a new set of environmental gas monitoring equipment and needed to collect and transmit data from various gas sensors deployed across different areas back to its central Environmental Safety Management Platform. The main devices and monitoring points are as follows:

Gas sensors mounted on AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) – these roving units perform automated inspections across multiple production workshops, collecting data on corrosive gases (SO₂, H₂S, Cl₂, HCl), temperature, humidity, and airborne cleanliness levels.

Smoke and formaldehyde sensors installed in the warehouse – these monitor smoke and formaldehyde gas concentrations to enable early detection of fire hazards and other dangerous conditions.
To address these requirements, WideIOT provided a highly efficient and reliable wireless data acquisition solution. By deploying I/O data terminals to interface with the various gas sensors, the system continuously captures real‑time readings of SO₂, H₂S, Cl₂, HCl, formaldehyde, temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and smoke levels. The data is then transmitted transparently over the facility's Wi‑Fi network to the Environmental Safety Management Platform, where it is parsed and processed. This enables comprehensive remote monitoring, alerting, management, control, and data analytics for the entire factory environment – significantly enhancing environmental oversight and emergency response capabilities, while safeguarding production continuity and personnel safety.

Key Capabilities

The I/O data terminals support multiple I/O signal inputs, enabling precise data acquisition from environmental sensors distributed throughout the workshops, ensuring both accuracy and real‑time performance of the raw data.

Using the plant's Wi‑Fi network, the terminals transmit data stably to the management platform via wireless transparent forwarding. This replaces the traditional manual inspection and log‑recording approach, effectively eliminating data latency and human recording errors.

Whenever a monitored parameter exceeds a preset safety threshold, the system automatically sends alerts to management personnel via WeChat, SMS, email, or audible/visual alarms. This allows for rapid fault localization and corrective action, helping to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.

The management platform generates visual data reports and dashboards. Administrators can export data by time period, area, or other dimensions, making it easy to review alarm statistics and conduct informed risk assessments.

The I/O data terminals feature industrial‑grade construction, supporting wide‑temperature operation and incorporating hardware/software watchdog self‑recovery mechanisms. They are designed for 24/7 reliable operation in demanding workshop environments, ensuring uninterrupted data collection.
