IoT Solution for Data Collection from Desiccant Dryer PLCs

Published: 2026-06-09 11:33:09

In a certain compressed air system, a desiccant dryer uses a Siemens S71200 series PLC as its controller. The digital input signals include the switching status of the drying tower, the on/off status of the regeneration heater, and the open/close status of the exhaust valve. The digital output signals control valve switching, heater start/stop, and blower operation for regeneration. The analog input signals include dew point temperature, inlet pressure, regeneration temperature, and outlet pressure. These enable continuous drying and regeneration cycles for the compressed air, ensuring stable operation of the air supply system.

The requirement is to collect data from the desiccant dryer PLC into the plant's MES system. WideIOT provides a highly reliable and efficient IoT solution. By deploying an industrial smart gateway to connect to the Siemens PLC, realtime equipment operating status and key process parameters can be collected and transmitted via Ethernet to the MES system. This enables equipment monitoring, fault alarms, remote control, data logging and statistics, and more. It effectively improves the management of equipment operation efficiency and supports the transition to digital and intelligent workshop management.

Key Features

Collects data such as dryer tower operating status, heater on/off, valve positions, dew point temperature, inlet pressure, regeneration temperature, etc. This data is transmitted to a monitoring dashboard via Ethernet, where realtime operating status of the desiccant dryer is visually displayed, enabling comprehensive onsite monitoring.

Supports permission management and remote operation. Authorized personnel can send commands through a dashboard or terminal, and the gateway forwards these commands to the PLC to start/stop heaters or open/close valves. This improves maintenance efficiency, reduces the need for onsite inspections, and enhances emergency response capabilities.

The system uates data based on preset rules to detect anomalies or alarm conditions. Notifications can be sent via SMS, email, or WeChat to alert relevant personnel, specifying the faulty equipment, type of issue, and related data. The system also logs fault information to help maintenance teams respond quickly and reduce air system downtime.

Generates analytical reports and charts, such as drying efficiency trends, regeneration energy consumption statistics, and fault frequency. This helps management understand the operating health, energy efficiency, and maintenance needs of the desiccant dryer, enabling informed decisionmaking to ensure a safe and stable compressed air supply for production.
