Data Collection Solution for Digitalized Food Baking Workshop

Published: 2026-04-27 14:20:43

As a food baking factory continues to expand its production capacity, it has gradually introduced automated raw material handling lines to support the transportation, storage, temperature control, and batching of core baking ingredients such as flour, sugar, and purified water. These upgrades provide a solid foundation for building an intelligent facility and a dust‑free workshop. The current requirement is to collect data from on‑site equipment and integrate it into the MES system. WideIOT provides a highly reliable and efficient data collection solution for this purpose.

The workshop is equipped with multiple PLC control cabinets that automate processes such as material feeding and storage, constant‑temperature water treatment, and weighing/mixing. Key equipment to be monitored includes vacuum pumps, purified water pumps, various storage tanks (for flour, sugar, etc.), and weighing instruments. By deploying industrial IoT gateways to connect to the PLCs, WideIOT enables real‑time data collection from the vacuum pumps and purified water pumps (operating parameters, voltage, current), storage tank levels and temperature/humidity, ingredient weights, and more. The data is then transmitted via Ethernet to the on‑site MES system. This supports remote monitoring, alarming, management, control, and data analysis, providing digital support for improving equipment management and production efficiency.

Key Features

The gateway is compatible with PLC protocols from Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Schneider Electric, and others, bridging differences between devices and providing a unified data interface to the MES system. It supports upstream protocols such as Modbus and MQTT.

Real‑time collection of vacuum pump and purified water pump operating status (start/stop, frequency, load ratio), voltage, current, etc., displayed dynamically in the MES interface.

Real‑time reading of flour and sugar tank levels, as well as temperature/humidity data, helping to avoid production interruptions or material spoilage due to insufficient material levels or abnormal environmental conditions.

Support for setting alarm thresholds for tank levels (too high / too low), temperature/humidity (outside process requirements), abnormal current fluctuations, etc. When triggered, notifications are sent via WeChat, SMS, or email.

Authorized personnel can remotely start/stop or adjust the operating frequency of vacuum pumps and purified water pumps, improving emergency response efficiency.

Based on collected start/stop, fault, and runtime data, the MES system can calculate equipment utilization, performance efficiency, and yield rates, helping to identify bottleneck stations and adjust production strategies accordingly.
